Constitution

The following conditions recognise that arepp:Theatre for Life is a human rights-based, democratic, non-sexist, non-racist, non-profit educational organisation whose beneficiaries are the young people in South African schools who constitute the trust’s audiences.
The rights of children and young people are considered to be prioritised, foregrounded, valued and protected at all times, and in all dealings of and with the organisation, its staff and the work, and in accordance with any guidelines as set out in this policy.

  • In accordance with government regulations, arepp:Theatre for Life is a smoke free environment. There is to be no smoking inside any arepp:Theatre for Life property or vehicles, or on the property of any arepp:Theatre for Life client, or while in arepp:Theatre for Life  uniform.
  • arepp:Theatre for Life is a weapon free organisation. No firearms or weapons may be brought on or into the arepp:Theatre for Life property or vehicles at any time.
  • arepp:Theatre for Life for Life is committed to the building of a sustainable, healthy society for all, which respects the diversity of the natural world and all its species. A policy of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ shall apply at all times to all of the organisation’s business.


These conditions apply to all employees of arepp:Theatre for Life and must be approved by the arepp:Theatre for Life Board of Trustees and are reviewed annually or as specific problems arise.

In endeavouring to achieve the objectives outlined above arepp:Theatre for Life and its members shall adhere to the following:

  • A commitment to the rights and best interests of the organisation and its staff, beneficiaries and clients irrespective of race, age, culture, ethnicity, disability, gender, class, sexual orientation, geographical location or language.
  • A commitment to, and respect and affirmation of human rights and their attendant responsibilities as outlined in the South African Constitution’s Bill of Rights, and to democracy.
  • A commitment to and the pursuit of the highest possible standards of artistic, educational and organisational excellence.
  • A commitment to the pursuit of transparency and accountability.
  • A commitment to the pursuit of sound financial management.
  • The belief that as a funded civil-society benefit organisation, arepp:Theatre for Life should be accountable for the funds allocated to it, but should be free of interference, political control or influence.
  • A willingness to actively participate in the formulation, implementation and promotion of the organisation’s policies, activities and projects, and in building its support base, in pursuit of its aims.
  • A commitment to abide by the organisation’s policies, constitution and decisions and to respect its activities, programmes and projects.
