Zoey graduated from the University of Cape Town as a trained professional actress, and has performed in productions at both local and international theatre festivals, including the National Arts Festival, Woordfees, KKNK and the International Theatre Festival of Kerala in India.

She began working for arepp:Theatre for Life in 2011 as a Performer, touring to Primary and Secondary schools nationwide. She has since broadened her involvement and is currently the organisation's Senior Project Manager. Her duties include the planning, organising and managing of the tours, monitoring general job performance, compiling reports to partners and donors, managing the network of relevant contact people in organisations and government departments, facilitating training workshops, and the general development and management of the organisation.

Zoey is also the owner, creator and blogger at zoeyblack.com, a platform which aims to address and explore social issues pertaining to the LGBTQIA+ community, specifically discussing the experiences of transgender, gender non-conforming, and gender marginalised people.
